JL knows best …

What is it that will make you say you made the right choice?

When we arrived at the hotel for the makeup prep, I was surprised to see everything in order so early. The giveaways and entourage gifts were neatly aligned and labeled. The flowers, the invites, and other wedding stuff ready and just waiting to be photographed. I was about to commend her wedding planner when she smiled and said,

“My boyfriend did it.”

Enough said 🙂

Don and Aileen – Finally!

I was 10 when I first met Aileen and we both wanted to be nuns (she started it haha). She was my full banged friend I had a lot of sleepovers and adventures with. When we grew up, we outgrew our impossible ambitions, had different set of friends and lost touch.

But after college, we managed to see each other at random nightouts and each time, we would always catch up like we were still in 4th grade. One time we talked about work, she suggested that I try this position at Bench that eventually opened my eyes to the fashion industry. Part of my work entailed organizing shoots that led me to discover my hidden love for makeup. That’s also where I met my mentor Krist Bansuelo.

We lost touch again for years. The next thing I knew, she was calling me and was already preparing for her church wedding with Don.

I’ve had several save the date and pre nup shoots, but theirs was just extra special. From the team, concept, down to each prop used for the shoot – everything was well thought of, planned and executed perfectly.

She introduced me to one of my favorite videographers, John de Guzman, whose style is always artistic and never cheesy. Very Don and Aileen.

I honestly think that we meet certain people for a reason. I met Aileen though for more than a dozen reasons. So thank you, thank you Aileen!

Sometime this year, three of my younger cousins announced they were getting married. Twinkle was the first to book me as her makeup artist / coordinator / consultant / maid of honor. It was months of running after suppliers, exchanging emails, fixing requirements and phone calls. Very far from what we used to doing when we were kids – playing with neighbors, going in and out each other’s houses or running away from that evil chicken that ruled the compound.

Amazing how time flies so fast!

Thank you Twink for making me part of your special day 🙂 Love you cuz!

Kristie and Dingeman engagement shoot

Who would ever think that Kristie and Dingeman have never done a photo shoot before? They posed like they were pros and were totally comfortable in front of the camera. And especially with Sara Black and Corine Alegre on board, the photos seemed as if they were pulled out from a fashion spread.

Now what more when we start shooting their Bora wedding? The results in April 🙂 I’m so excited!

On Board: Mackie and Joanne

Travel bugs Mackie and Joanne have been all over the world together. In fact, they’ve been to so many countries that I’m not quite sure where else can they spend their honeymoon. So for the wedding, what better theme to have than travel of course.

So, one day, we booked our *flight* to the local air force museum, packed our bags (full of props and outfits), hopped on the plane (literally! good job joe!) and let master wedding photographer Oly Ruiz bring nostalgia in the air 🙂

Ian and Jessica, On Top of the World !

Last August, I was fortunate to join engagement stylist Feliz Diestro and photographer Jay Jay Lucas on their Singapore shoot spree where I met Ian and Jessica. The super cute couple chose a fairytale pre nup concept. They looked so young that the photos could totally pass off as a series of prom pics 🙂

The ever so resourceful Feliz set the fairytale vibe with the cute outfits and props and even managed to bring along Taylor Swift to sing Love Story (thanks to her ever so reliable portable speakers!). Jay Jay led the way from lobby to the top of the Marina Bay Sands Sky Park (a 1 hectare sky terrace that lies on top of 3 towers) then moving on to the Helix bridge, overlooking the burning torch of the Youth Olympics.

Friends of the couple joined the fun and took behind the scenes photos as Jay Jay captured the couple’s romantic moments. A good day with good friends and a good team.

Indeed, fairytales do come true 🙂

The Bride Who Wore Chucks On Her Day

Spraining her ankle two weeks before the wedding, the untimely blackout during our makeup test and other mishaps led Tin to entertain typical wedding superstitious beliefs. She’d often joke about blaming it on fitting her gown. But despite all the unexpected mishaps, she still managed to have her picture-perfect wedding. Not to mention the awesome customized beaded sneakers as a bonus on her big day.
